Chasing Rainbows

Looking at our cabin this morning, it was difficult to fathom that just last night, we weathered such a powerful storm.

The morning felt serene. It was the perfect moment for another walk along the beach.

It was cool, crisp, and windy. A walk along the beach felt incredibly invigorating as the wind blew my hair in all directions.

As I strolled along the shoreline, the rhythmic sound of waves crashing added a soothing backdrop to my thoughts. Seagulls called overhead, and the salty scent of the ocean filled the air.

Dana loves walking by the ocean, and this morning was no different.

Dana and I commenced our drive today, but less than ten minutes in, we stumbled upon a charming little town called Mogo and had to stop! We couldn’t help but laugh at how short our journey was before our first stop.

However, Mogo turned out to be a wonderful discovery and well worth the stop. The morning was beautiful, filled with sunshine.

Mogo was delightful, with numerous little shops offering handmade crafts. Dana struck up conversations with the shop owners, and it was quite a challenge to get her to leave.

The weather shifted quickly, and upon our arrival at Bateman’s Bay, clouds had started to gather.

We drove to Ulladulla and visited their Wildflower Reserve, but since it was late autumn, the floral display was more subdued.

The trails were still beautiful, with a few resilient blooms adding splashes of colour amidst the foliage.

I could imagine how much more vibrant the reserve must be during other times of the year, especially in spring, when the wildflowers are likely to be in full bloom.

Despite the season, the reserve offered a peaceful and refreshing experience, surrounded by the serene beauty of nature. We thoroughly enjoyed our half-hour stroll there.

As the day progressed, it grew colder and grayer, with a light drizzle accompanying us as we pressed on toward Sydney.

We made a brief stop at Nelsons Beach, but the chilly weather prompted us to move on rather quickly.

Berry village exudes quaint charm. The town compelled us to pause and admire its autumn hues.

The vibrant autumn foliage provides a stunning backdrop to the historic architecture, casting a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the village.

With its irresistible blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and small-town charm, it’s no wonder that Berry is considered one of the gems of the New South Wales South Coast.

As we approached Sydney, a stunning rainbow appeared in the distance.

Intrigued, we made the spontaneous decision to follow its arc, curious to discover where it led. To our amazement, we traced its path all the way to the sea.

Along the journey, we stumbled upon a hidden gem, a small blowhole, a natural rock formation that spouts seawater into the air, adding an unexpected and delightful twist to our adventure.

Overall, the drive from Bateman’s Bay to Sydney offered a mix of coastal beauty, rural tranquility, and small country town excitement. The day began with sunshine, but it soon gave way to chilly rain. By the time we arrived in Sydney, darkness had fallen, accompanied by cold drizzle. Thankfully, we made it safely to our cozy Airbnb—a quaint studio tucked away in the backyard of a house.

  1. You’ve driven such a long way and you’ve seen so much beauty along the way! Sydney / NSW has had so much rain lately, it’s incredible! Take care driving and I hope the weather clears for you soon, and it will be clear blue skies from now on. Safe travels. 🚙☀️🌴🌿🌊

    1. We have seen so much! I can’t believe I have driven Melbourne to Sydney before in one day. When you drive along M1 you just see so little. Coming up the coast takes so much longer, but it’s so worth it. This trip is not about the destination, it’s about the journey. Thankfully today looks nice and sunny, no rain in sight.

There is so much beauty along the coast of NSW both south and north. The further north you get the more exquisite the nature becomes until you reach the northern rivers which to my mind is God’s own country and the best Australia has to offer.

And along the way the beaches and “heads” are dotted like bright gems in a necklace.
