Stamford Park

Peter and I celebrated a memorable birthday lunch at Stamford Park Homestead in Rowville.

It wasn’t a long road trip, but it was a very pleasant one.

The day was perfect—the kind that makes you grateful to be outdoors.

It wasn’t too hot or too cold, and there wasn’t even a whisper of wind to disrupt the serenity.

The extensive gardens surrounding the homestead were breathtaking.

Lush, green lawns stretched out under the bright blue sky, punctuated by bursts of colour from vibrant flowers.

Every path invited exploration, with carefully arranged plants and garden beds adding charm at every turn.

The towering old trees stood proudly, their branches forming natural canopies that provided dappled shade.

The homestead itself was a sight to behold.

Beautifully decorated for Christmas, it seemed to radiate festive cheer.

Wreaths adorned the doors, and sparkling lights twinkled merrily.

Inside the homestead, the Christmas spirit was truly alive.

Each room seemed to tell its own festive story.

Many fireplaces, adorned with garlands of greenery, cast a warm and welcoming glow.

In one corner stood a fresh Christmas tree, its branches heavy with ornaments, ribbons, and glimmering baubles, while a star at the top shimmered gently in the soft light.

Shelves lining the walls were filled with old-fashioned dishes, each one seeming perfect for serving a grand Christmas Day meal.

From delicate china platters to sturdy serving bowls, the collection whispered of family gatherings and festive feasts from a bygone era.

The chairs, upholstered in deep red fabric with an old-fashioned charm, were arranged invitingly around the space, their colour adding to the festive atmosphere.

Near the entrance, a row of hooks bore a delightful touch of whimsy—gentlemen’s hats hanging neatly, evoking a sense of nostalgia and tradition.

The homestead felt like stepping into a storybook Christmas, where every detail, no matter how small, contributed to the charm of the season.

We chose to sit outside on the porch, where we could soak in the view of the gardens.

A soft melody of Christmas songs floated from the loudspeaker, completing the festive ambiance.

The peaceful setting was perfect for a long, lazy lunch.

Stamford Park Homestead is one of those places that feels like a hidden treasure—somewhere you go for lunch but end up staying longer just to soak it all in.

This 19th-century gem isn’t just about the food; it’s about the whole experience.

Every corner seems to have its own story, whether it’s a quiet bench tucked under a tree or a little pond reflecting the greenery around it.

It’s the kind of place where you just want to stroll, breathe in the fresh air, and forget about everything else.

Then there’s the homestead itself—a real slice of history.

Built in the 1800s, it’s a beautiful example of Gothic Revival architecture.

From the pointed gables to the intricate wrought iron and fretted bargeboards, every detail has that timeless charm.

The five-metre-high ceilings inside give the rooms a grand, airy feel, making you wonder what life was like when it was first built.

Stamford Park has seen its fair share of ups and downs. By the time Knox Council acquired it in 1988, it was in pretty rough shape. Thankfully, a lot of love and care went into restoring it.

Walking through the homestead feels like stepping back in time—you can almost picture the bustling family gatherings and elegant dinners that must have happened here.

But it’s not just the history that makes this place special. It’s the atmosphere. Sitting out on the porch with Peter, listening to Christmas music playing softly in the background, and enjoying a long, lazy birthday lunch was very special. The homestead has this peaceful vibe that makes you want to linger, whether you’re chatting, exploring the gardens, or just taking it all in.

Stamford Park Homestead is a destination. You come for the food, but you stay for the beauty, the history, and the feeling that you’ve found something truly special.

It’s the kind of place you’ll want to visit again and again, each time discovering something new to love.
