Welcome April!

I love your cooler nights, where crisp air whispers through the trees, inviting cosy evenings wrapped in soft blankets with a cup of steaming tea in hand.

Your autumn colours paint the landscape in hues of gold, amber, and crimson, transforming ordinary streets and gardens into breathtaking canvases of nature’s artistry.

I love your chestnut festivals, where the scent of roasting chestnuts fills the air, mingling with the laughter of families and friends gathered to celebrate the season’s bounty.

I love your Easter bunnies and hot cross buns, symbols of renewal and tradition.

The delight of little hands reaching for chocolate eggs hidden in the garden brings a sense of magic to the season.

The aroma of spiced buns fresh from the oven fills the air, making April a time of warmth and togetherness.

I love family celebrations and weddings that bring us closer, moments of shared joy around tables laden with seasonal delights.

And I love autumn getaways, where road trips lead to hidden gems—quaint country bakeries, misty mountain trails, and vineyards dressed in their fiery autumn best.

I love the way your gardens burst into life with late-blooming roses, dahlias, and camellias, standing proudly among carpets of fallen leaves.

I love the scent of wood smoke curling from chimneys, carrying the promise of cooler days ahead.

The afternoon sun casts long golden shadows across the fields, painting the landscape in a warm, gentle glow.

I love the way you invite us to slow down, to breathe in the crisp, earthy air, and to savour the fleeting beauty of autumn before winter’s chill sets in.

I love the crunch of leaves beneath my feet, nature’s gentle reminder to pause and appreciate the changing seasons.

I love the sight of persimmons hanging like lanterns on bare branches, their rich orange glow a final gift before the trees surrender to winter’s rest.

I love the golden afternoons that invite lazy strolls through parks and gardens, where the last bees hum around late blooms.

The air is filled with the earthy perfume of damp soil and fallen leaves, wrapping the world in the scent of autumn.

I love the comfort of slow-cooked meals, where kitchens are filled with the warmth of simmering soups, baked apples, and the spice of cinnamon lingering long after dinner is done.

April, you wrap the world in a cosy embrace, reminding us to savour the beauty, the flavours, and the moments that make this season so special.

April, you are a month of transition, of beauty, of cherished traditions.

You are wonderfully and warmly welcomed!

ps. I took these photos today at the Tesselaar KaBloom Festival of Flowers, which runs from March 29 to April 27 in Silvan, in the Dandenong Ranges. There are acres upon acres of autumn flowers—millions upon millions of blooms in every colour of the rainbow—ready to take your breath away.
