If you ever find yourself in Canberra, promise me you’ll make time for a visit to Rodney’s.

It’s not just a nursery, not just a café, and not just a gift shop — it’s all of that and somehow so much more.

It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend the whole day, wandering, sipping, admiring, and, if you’re anything like me, losing all sense of time completely.

We began our visit at the café, tucked within the leafy heart of the grounds.

The courtyard was bathed in soft sunlight, with tables surrounded by flowering plants and the scent of blossoms floating gently through the air.

It felt peaceful — like we’d stepped into a secret garden.

Peter and I shared freshly baked scones with jam and cream, accompanied by coffee and chai (mine was sticky chai — and oh, it was very good quality too!).

I could have happily stayed there all morning, but curiosity tugged me further along.

The nursery was a plant lover’s paradise — row after row of lush greenery, blooming colour, and fragrant air.

I wandered through hydrangeas and herbs, palms and petunias, losing count of how many times I said, “Oh, look at this one!”

But even surrounded by all that natural beauty, something else was calling me… the gift shop.

And oh, what a gift shop it was!

The moment I stepped inside, my heart did a little flip.

It was like walking into Santa’s workshop.

Shelves overflowed with glittering ornaments, festive garlands, and cheerful Nutcrackers standing guard.

Christmas had taken over every corner.

I was in absolute paradise.

I could feel my eyes sparkling as I took it all in.

I even sat on Santa’s chair, giggling like a child.

We had our photo taken together with Mr Nutcracker himself.

Around us, the shelves twinkled with baubles and stars.

There were snow globes and wreaths everywhere, each one adding to the festive charm.

I looked at nearly every ornament, each one more beautiful than the last.

There were delicate glass reindeer, tiny angels, and Nordic-style wooden decorations that reminded me of my Finnish roots.

There was also a food section, stocked with gourmet delights — jams, sauces, chocolates, and chutneys.

I think I gasped when I spotted Marimekko serviettes among the displays — a little touch of Finland right there in Canberra!

That sealed it.

This was my kind of shop.

I was so completely captivated that Peter practically had to drag me out.

Truly.

If Rodney’s were in Melbourne instead of Canberra, I’m convinced it would become my second home.

(All right, maybe not home, but definitely my regular haunt.)

Everything about Rodney’s was brilliant and beautiful.

From the garden courtyard to the café’s perfect scones, and from the rows of potted treasures to the Christmas wonderland that stole my heart, it was pure delight.

It’s one of those special places that makes you feel happy just to be there.

If joy had an address, I think it would be Rodney’s.
