Completely Alive!

The night couldn’t be more perfect for a stroll along the beach. The breeze is gentle, and the sea mirrors its stillness.

I inhale deeply, letting the scents of the evening fill my senses—the salty mist in the air, the refreshing scent of eucalyptus drifting from the trees nearby.

My toes sink into the sand, which still holds the warmth of the day. A seagull glides effortlessly along the shoreline, scanning the ground just a short distance away in search of food. The rhythmic sound of waves rolling in and retreating soothes my mind, a constant, endless melody.

In moments like these, the sheer beauty of creation feels almost overwhelming, a breathtaking reminder of God’s handiwork, painted across the sky and whispered in the rhythm of the waves.

As I walk, the sky begins its slow transformation, painted in hues of gold, amber, and soft lavender. The sun, now a shimmering ball of light just above the horizon, casts a sparkling path across the water, stretching toward me like a silent invitation.

Gentle ripples catch the last light of the day, flickering like tiny flames dancing upon the sea’s surface. The warmth of the fading sun lingers on my skin, mingling with the coolness creeping in from the evening air.

My little granddaughter’s laughter rings out, light and carefree, blending with the sound of the waves. She twirls, her tiny feet kicking up sand, her golden curls catching the last rays of sunlight. There is no hesitation, no self-consciousness—only pure, unfiltered joy. I watch her, my heart swelling with love, and a quiet longing stirs deep within me.

Somewhere along the way, we learn to quiet our joy, to temper our spontaneity. We trade twirls for steady steps, laughter for polite smiles, and barefoot dances for careful composure. But why? Why do we let the weight of the world settle upon our shoulders while children move so lightly, so effortlessly through life?

She turns to me, eyes sparkling, and holds out her little hand. An unspoken invitation. For a moment, I hesitate. Then, with a deep breath, I slip off the last shreds of doubt. I lift the hem of my dress, step onto the cool, damp sand, and let my feet carry me into the dance.

The ocean sings, the sky glows in its final farewell, and together, we spin and sway—two souls, one young and one older, a granddaughter and her grandmother, meeting in a place where time does not exist. Where joy is simple. Where the world watches, but we do not care.

Shadows stretch across the sand, and the world grows quieter, as if even nature pauses to admire the moment. A lone seagull cries out, its wings silhouetted against the pastel sky, before vanishing into the growing twilight.

The sun sinks lower, its fiery glow softening, melting into the horizon where sea and sky become one. The waves whisper their endless song, and as I stand there, heart full, hand in hand with my granddaughter, I feel at peace—completely present, completely alive.
