Pinnacles Lookout

Today was one of those perfect adventure days — good food, breathtaking scenery, and little moments of pure joy along the way. We set out for the Pinnacles Lookout Walk, but first, we needed to fuel up for the journey. Our morning started at a cosy little spot in Newhaven, Phillip Island – The Haven Wave Cafe — and what a gem of a place!

The moment we walked in, I knew we were in for something special. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service? Absolutel top-notch. But the real surprise came when the owner, Sal recognised my friend Dana (from Florida) from a previous visit! I couldn’t believe my ears—but then again, Dana and her Southern accent could charm just about anyone. It just goes to show how special this café is; they don’t just serve food, they remember their guests!

And speaking of food—breakfast was a solid 10/10! Everything was delicious, fresh, and made with care. If you’re ever visiting Phillip Island, The Haven Wave Café is a must. The kind of place that makes you want to linger just a little longer.

With full bellies and happy hearts, we finally hit the road for our hike to The Pinnacles Lookout.

The adventure starts with a peaceful 15-20 minute walk along the beach before reaching the steps that lead to the clifftop lookout. From there, it’s another similar walk before arriving at the lookout.

My little granddaughter, Freyja, was beyond excited the moment her feet hit the sand!

She collected rocks, carried sand, and ran around with pure joy—exactly how a child should experience nature.

It’s always magical seeing the world through her eyes.

As we made our way along the track, the scenery just kept getting better.

The ocean stretched endlessly, shifting shades of blue with every step.

Surfers dotted the waves, riding the swells, adding to the energy of the place.

But the real showstopper was the Pinnacles rock formations.

These rugged, towering rocks jut out dramatically from the cliffs, shaped by centuries of wind and waves.

The contrast between the deep blue ocean, the golden cliffs, and the wild rock formations is simply jaw-dropping.

Every angle felt like a postcard, and I found myself stopping just to take it all in.

The best walk in Phillip Island? Absolutely!

From start to finish, this track delivers.

It’s a mix of wild coastal beauty, ocean views that change with every turn, and the kind of fresh sea air that makes you feel alive.

If you’re ever looking for a walk that’s both rewarding and breathtaking, The Pinnacles Lookout Walk is it.

After spending time at the lookout, soaking in the views and just breathing in that fresh sea air, it was time to head back.

The waves crashed against the cliffs with a steady rhythm, as if whispering their own timeless stories.

We could see seagulls gliding effortlessly in the breeze, calling out to each other as they danced above the water. A few daring ones swooped low near us, ever hopeful that we might have a snack to share. They are such characters—bold, persistent, and always watching.

As we walked along the beach, we stopped for a moment just to take it all in.

The salty breeze, the sound of the waves rolling in and retreating, the feeling of bare feet sinking into cool, damp sand.

There’s something about the ocean that just grounds you, reminding you how small you are in the grand scheme of things, yet somehow making you feel more alive than ever.

Freyja, still full of energy, kept collecting treasures from the shore—tiny shells, smooth pebbles, and even a piece of driftwood she declared her “magic wand.”

Her laughter mixed with the sound of the waves, creating the most beautiful melody.

By the time we reached the car, we were tired but in the best way—the kind of tired that comes from a day well spent, filled with fresh air, movement, and memories.

The Pinnacles Lookout Walk is hands-down one of the best walks on Phillip Island.

From start to finish, it’s an ever-changing display of nature’s finest work—rolling waves, dramatic cliffs, endless sky, and the kind of views that make you stop in your tracks.

Add in a fantastic café experience at The Haven Wave Café, and I’d call this day absolutely perfect.

If you ever find yourself in Phillip Island, this is one adventure you won’t want to miss.

What a day—great food, great company, and stunning scenery.

The ocean, ever so wild, and powerful.
